Episode 6

Big waves and The Christmas anchor

Published on: 11th June, 2024

After passing the 200 mile mark it’s time for Mhairi and Allan to celebrate with another bar of chocolate. But reaching this point hasn’t been easy and we join them hunkered down in the cabin. After passing St. Abbs head they pushed on to find shelter at Holy Island off the Northumberland coast.

The sea crossing to get there threw it all at them, big waves in the dark, surging tides pushing them on, visits from passing boats and Ross in his sea kayak who was heading north up the coast and stopped for a chat.

Getting into the safe anchorage at Holy Island was a battle against fast tides so they dropped anchor before they reached safety….only for it to drag along the seabed. So the big “Christmas” anchor had to come out to hold them fast.
